During  a Uranus to Sun /Mercury transit I came across the exceptionally well researched and acclaimed biography  written by:
Jon Lee Anderson , Che Guevara : A Revolutionary Life, Grove Press, 1997.
I read the book fervently after researching Ernesto Guevara’s  birth data for the mystery  chart. Numerous internet searches gave two different dates, one 14th June 1928 at 3:05am, the other  14th May 1928 also at 3:05am(which was also the same through a friend with astrodatabank). The story of his confusing birthdate is all revealed in the book.

The biography  starts with the words, “ The horoscope was confounding” and   continues to reveal  the story behind the true date of Ernesto Guevara’s  birth. We find out that Che Guevara was indeed born on 14th May 1928 in Rosario, Argentina.  It continues that his mother  “confided a secret she had guarded for over three decades, that  her famous son had actually been born one month earlier on May 14th. He was no Gemini but a headstrong Taurus”. She said “if her son had not become famous she would never have needed to reveal the deception.  The deception had been necessary because she was three months pregnant on the day she married Che’s father, and a doctor friend falsified the baby’s certificate moving it forward one month to help shield them  from scandal.”page 1.   Ernesto’s parents were both from  well known and respected, Catholic families of Buenos Aires,  large land and plantation owners, who found it necessary to keep away from the prying eyes and ears of Buenos Aires at the time, also saying that their son was born 2 months prematurely.

His mother accounts to him being born at dawn, on May 14th ,  but no time is given. Finding the time for dawn in Rosario Argentina was first on my agenda. Sunrise in Rosario is at that time of year is 7:40am and dawn is within the half hour before that. In the chart above, I have chosen 7:15 am to be the chart I use for this exercise and the chart that was given to the group to unravel the mystery.  Che’s  exact birth time however could be somewhat different, I would say no more that ten minutes earlier or later, but then again what is dawn in a mother’s eyes while giving birth,is another mystery. Regardless,  a  few factors whilst setting a time for the birth needed to stay in place, Saturn in the 8th and Venus near the ascendant, but in the 12th house, and Neptune conjunct the IC(using placidus houses).The Pisces Moon in the tenth house, the mother’s  secret, square Saturn in the 8th, the parent’s marriage,  squaring the nodes , the individual’s karmic life directions,  Neptune on the IC, not knowing,   and the 12th house Venus, Chiron and Jupiter, together all paint the story of the cover up, his birth myth and how it symbolically shaped the man he was to become, and the excerpt below infuses the astrology further:

“If their child had not grown up to be the famous revolutionary Che, his parents’ secret might have gone with them to their graves. A rare public figure of modern times whose birth and death certificates are both falsified. Yet it seems uniquely fitting that Guevara, who spent most of his adult life engaged in clandestine activities and who died as a result of a secret conspiracy, should have also begun his life in subterfuge.” page 4.
Throughout the biography we find out a few times, that Che celebrated his birthday on the 14th of June, but it is not revealed whether he ever discovered his true birthdate, but would be interesting to find out.

The rising of the planet Venus, the ruler of the chart and Sun sign, was perhaps the most important placement to consider in this chart. It was important to have Venus rising and close to the ascendant, not in the 1st house but in the 12th. Venus in the first would make the birth time too early and before dawn, and making the birth time later moves Venus further away from the ascendant. Venus needed to be closely aligned to the ascendant but in the 12th , as I continued to read this biography.

Che, more than anything, was driven by a strong need and desire to help the impoverished and underprivileged in society, spending his life devoted to the cause..  Venus in the 12th but rising, coupled with his Pisces Moon and Mars, shows us a man driven to extreme lengths of self sacrifice to help others in his ongoing fight against imperialistic regimes. Venus in the first would indicate a person more self involved and concerned with their own needs. Taurus energy is like that of a Bull, following a particular path, not concerned with peripheral distractions, or getting there in a roundabout way, totally determined  to go straight for the red flag. His Sun in the first house and Venus rising, reflects his determination, as well as his often talked and written about, charisma and charm. Anyone that met Che spoke of an instant liking for the man. He was never concerned about how he looked , how he dressed or what he wore, often wearing the same clothes for days on end without washing, even when not in the jungles with the guerrillas. The rawness of this Taurus personality comes out strong throughout the story, his smile and laughter and calm seriousness adding to his uniqueness and unforgettable presence.(Ps – yes I do know he was a brutal muderer having killed many people)

The most incredible likeness to Venus rising is of course that he wore the five pointed star on his forehead. Rarely seen without his guerrilla garb, boots and beret, with the representation of Venus, his star placed firmly on his forehead.  It’s as if he wore his astrology chart on his head, Venus rising on his beret! The five pointed metal star he wore was the symbol of his socialist mission, he didn’t wear the Red Star of the communists, nor the Gold star of the military, his socialist cause stemmed from Marxist ideals and his vision was different to that of the communist movements around the world at the time.

His nickname Che,  comes from the time he first met Fidel Castro and other Cuban revolutionaries during the mid 50’s in Guatemala and Mexico, when they  were all planning  the emancipation of Cuba from Battista. “Che” refers to the Argentine way of saying “Hey You” , and stuck with him for the rest of his life, reflecting a no fuss attitude of who he was. It was much more important to him, what he could do.  A doctor, a comrade, a respected commander of the Cuban guerrilla forces, the hero of the Cuban revolution, Che was also appointed as chief prosecutor , commander of agrarian reform ,  the production of sugar and the head of the National Bank of Castro’s Cuba. A career path that reflects all the fixed  angles in his chart and angle rulers, the Midheaven, Ascendant, descendant and IC. Fidel Castro writes on the competence, diplomacy and patience of the man, often referred to as Castro’s brain,

“ When grenades were needed, Che set up a factory to make them. When bread was wanted, Che set up ovens to bake it. When new recruits needed to learn tactics and discipline, Che taught them. When a school was needed to teach peasants to read and write, Che organized it.” Castro’s Brain, 1960.

Venus  conjuncts Chiron, and the Guevara story deepens. Chiron tells us the story of his weak lungs, his difficulties with breathing , the suffering from asthma all his life and his need to become a medical doctor. He was born with asthma  and as a baby and young man, his family kept  moving and uprooting the family home, to see if a new location and atmosphere would help alleviate Ernesto’s asthma. He suffered incredibly long bouts of illness at home in bed, missing school for months on end trying to breathe, constantly vomiting and feverish. As a young engineering student , WHEN his much loved grandmother died,  he decided to change career paths and study medicine. He wanted to  help alleviate human suffering and particularly to help  those that suffered the same condition as himself. He wrote years later of having a dream that motivated his decision,
“ I dreamed of becoming a famous investigator………of working indefatigably to find something  that could be definitively placed at the disposition of humanity “ page 42. Certainly fitting to  what he was to become .

Later, in the guerrilla camps, he continued to be subjected to great weakness due to his asthma, nearly dying many times.  He took up smoking cigars in Cuba , saying it helped his asthma. As Guevara was an avid diary keeper, the biography continually references his own writing and we gain great insights into the man, his mind and his thinking. When suffering asthma attacks during his guerrilla missions, he writes numerous times  how he comes  to understand the necessity of his illness. He opens up to us astrologers  his personal connection to the meaning of his Venus Chiron, with Venus being ruler of his house of health the 6th in Libra.  He sees his illness as something he knows he needed to have, he saw his asthma attacks as his time out,  his time to reflect, hold back and not move for a while. Sometimes crucial to the movement of the Guerrillas which he commandeered. He saw this timing as a time to plan before commanding the next move, and often wrote that if it wasn’t for his debilitating asthma he would be completely unstoppable and dangerous.

His Pisces Moon, 12th house planets and their connections, also his Neptune on the IC in  trine with Jupiter in Aries in the 12th, sharing fire with Saturn and squaring the Sun all indicate his illness , his drive for  self sacrifice for the greater good, his peripatetic home life, his non patriotic association with one particular country, his never returning  back home to Argentina and  his universal socialist cause. The astrology and his story fit so well that we have  a great sense that his ultimate mission was definitely fated and  not his own. When his father asks Che what he planned to do with his medical career, when visiting him in Cuba after the revolution, Che replies,

“I deserted it a long time ago. Now I am a fighter who is working in the consolidation of a government. What will become of me? I don’t know, I don’t even know in which land I will leave my bones.” Page  390

His missions were  too great. He was a world leader in the revolutionary socialist cause and became a  wanted,  but respected man , spending the last few years of his life in hiding and disguise. He knew  that he was creating history as he went, but perhaps never knew  how far his legend and his image would be circulated, plagiarized and revered as the ultimate symbol of the revolutionary. We see this astrologically through his, Uranus (modern ruler of the MC) in Aries in the 11th house,  trine south node and  sextile the North node and Mercury.

The Image of Che Guevara

When we talk about the image of Guevara, a living legend, an archetypal figure , we are all reminded of a specific photo , sometimes referred to as the most famous photo of all time, Guerrillero Heroico,  the image above. This image has been copied countless times by artists  around the globe in various forms, designs and colours and has become the ultimate image of the revolutionary archetype. This iconic photo was captured  on the 5th March 1960, in Havana, Cuba by photographer Alberto Korda, no time available .  Taken at a memorial service for fallen comrades of the La Coubre explosion which had happened the day before, the photo however was never published internationally until 1967, the year of Che’s execution. Korda **has stated that he was drawn to Guevara’s facial expression at the time, which was one of “absolute implacability ……..anger and  pain……… with that great sadness in his eyes”. Korda said  the photo encapsulated Che’s “character, firmness, stoicism, and resoluteness”.***

The astrological line up in the sky for that day was, Uranus was exactly opposite Venus in the sky, Venus at 17 Aquarius and Uranus 17 Leo, both squaring Guevara’s ascendant and exactly squaring his progressed Moon at 17 Taurus.

In May 2008 at the Cannes film festival, two movies about Che Guevara, directed by Steven Soderbergh were released, “The Argentine” and “Guerilla”.  In Cannes and throughout the premier seasons of   2008 and 2009, Neptune transits the midheaven of Che’s astrological chart. A very likely resemblance to Che Guevara  and even a few astrological connections make Benicio del Toro(Bull, Taurus) the perfect choice  for portraying the Argentine. The resemblance is somewhat uncanny and he was cast to play the part for obvious reasons.  Del Toro’s natal    Saturn at 28 Pisces conjuncts Che’s  Mars, his North Node conjuncts  Che’ s Venus, his Venus Chiron conjunction in Pisces sextileS Che’s Sun and his  Jupiter exactly squares  Che’s Jupiter. A casting choice made  in heaven. Benicio del Toro was born,  19 Feb 1967, no time available. The movie is due for release in the USA in Jan 2009 and has already  been released in Spain. I eagerly await its release in Australia.

Reading  the biography with the chart, making the correlations of his life and times to his astrology was  constantly fascinating. Luckily there are many dates in this book and even a death time that make reading the biography even more intriguing and revealing. If only every biography came with a birth chart. For those interested in great biographies that can be followed with an astrological chart, I can highly recommend this book and this chart. As there is so much to write about  I will continue with : Part Two, of the Che Guevara astrological story,  as I look into his missions, successes and failures , and his death.  Our symbolic language, astrology,  helps us further connect  to his life, his personality, his drive, the times he lived in and the people he was connected to.

As the Guevara image continues to resonate throughout the world, during  these uncertain times,  careering towards  2012, in a world transforming and shedding it’s old skin, we can perhaps take some insights from Guevara and his dire need to fight for more equal societies
(sans the guns of course), now we can perhaps get there through our intentions, conscious awareness and a better understanding of conscious global evolution.

Yes. Think about Mars and Uranus in the 11th – what could they have perhaps been up to behind the scenes?

Were they eccentric?

Yes. I think they would have had to be to do what they did.

Did they carry much mysterious information?

At this stage, we seem to be getting close, but  we only have 45 minutes given to do this whole exercise and  every one gets quite intrigued as who it might be and there  is still so much to talk about once the mystery is revealed , it is time to reveal the mystery.

Do you know who it might be? Given the clues and the chart, we know it’s a man behind the scenes but very much noticed, a writer with a mission and many hidden agendas, a charismatic fellow concerned with defending  others, especially the impoverished and downtrodden of society.

A few more clues – before 1 reveal who it is. He became a living legend and myth in his own lifetime, he was much loved and hated, admired and deceived. He had a great cause and a capacity to persist, follow his own moral judgements and beliefs, certainly a unique and passionate individual, this person is no other than the – Go to answer:

On June 6^{th UTC} 2012 the planet Venus will make a rare Transit across the face of the Sun.  As astrologers understand a transit in a different sense, we often refer to this phenomena as a Venus Occultation.  As Venus is 113 times smaller than the Sun , she does not obscure or hide the Sun as occultation suggests, but instead becomes a travelling beauty spot, a black dot moving across the Sun’s disc for 6hours and 40 minutes.

This rare event occurs with Venus in retrograde phase, closest in her cycle to Earth, at an inferior conjunction. The difference from every other retrograde passing which happen every 584 days, 19 months , 1.6 years, is that a Transit happens only every 121.5 years or 105.5  alternating between the signs of Gemini or Sagittarius. The transits then happen in pairs(usually*) 8 years apart. A total Venus Transit cycle from one set of Transits in a sign and then back to the same sign is 243 years, closely aligned with a Pluto cycle of 248 years.  The Transits have been occurring in  the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius since 60 ACE and will continue now beyond 4000 ACE until the descending node, Sagittarius and the ascending node, Gemini move off into the next signs. The Transits move forward in the zodiac  with the last “Age” of Venus Transits being in Taurus and Scorpio and the next in Cancer and Capricorn. We are currently experiencing the Transits in mid Gemini and Sagittarius which oscillate between  17 and 14 degrees of these two signs.

During a retrograde passage Venus usually disappears into the beams of the Sun and is not visible from 16-20 days depending on local latitudes and atmospherics and declination.  Venus Retrograde periods of 40 days-40 nights and also her non -visibility periods(20-16 days) are understood symbolically as Venus in the underworld, invisible and  weakened .  This time however she is much more glorious,  as this time mid disappearance although for only 6 hours, she emblazons herself on the face of Sun in her fullness and not as we usually see her, in a phase as being half full, crescent or gibbous.

The Sun our guiding light our number one star, symbolic of life force itself, purpose, growth and unity consciousness absorbs Venus into his heart. Two hearts come together as Venus too has a heart, embodying all that represents love, attraction, peace and harmony.  Two hearts conjoin in something more than what we usually understand as Cazimi. A truly alchemical and passionate embrace the integration of the divine feminine and masculine, fusing  their creative principles and beaming them out onto the Earth.

The Sun and Venus come together every 9.5 months, from one conjunction, inferior, to the next superior, and so on. A constantly forming cycle making a pentagon around the zodiac reminding us of the eternal cycle of creation . This current pentagon is created in the signs of Gemini 15, Aries 8, Capricorn 23, Scorpio 3 and Leo 23 in that order. Every second time they meet they create the wonderful Pentacle around the zodiac, with 5 retrograde loops made every 1.6 years taking 8 years to complete one complete cycle around the zodiac The next retrograde will be this occultation in June 2012 Gemini, 1.6 years , 19 months later the next retrograde loop will be in Capricorn in Jan 2014, then Leo August 2015,  Aries March 2017, Scorpio Nov 2018 and back to Gemini 8 years from now in June 2020.  (as shown in diagram below) .

The magic of the Venus cycle unfolds with every loop,  with one synodic cycle, a revolution around the Sun,  she forms a rose petal or a heart shape and then another and another every 1.6 years. A  magnificent rose begins to form around the Sun with a full pentacle shaping itself  in the middle. The Heart and Rose intimately related to Venus as symbols of love , beauty and attraction.

Besides the Heart, Rose and Pentacle, the Venus cycle is closely linked to the ratios of  Sacred Geometry, the Golden Mean as well as the Fibonacci sequence.  As Venus makes her 5 points in 8 years the ratio 5/8  is  1.6, 1.6 years being also her synodic cycle, this ratio is  known also as the phi ratio, the divine proportion in sacred geometry. Sacred geometry is a science that explains physical energy patterns of growth and harmony, found everywhere in the natural world. We see these examples in the nautilus shell, a spiral galaxy and an unfolding rose  and these principles and ratios have been used since ancient times in art, design and architecture to create harmony, balance, aesthetics and beauty . The Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical formula of growth, 1,1,2,3,5,8,13 etc,  also embodies this phi ratio where each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two and divide as the 1.6 ratio.  We are reminded with these exquisite connections of Venus and her cycle around the Sun as a pure and divine creative force.

The Transits through the Ages

It is interesting to see how the Transits of Venus have coincided with major shifts  in consciousness throughout the cycles between Gemini or Sagittarius Ages being 243- years or alternating shorter Ages from one to the next the 121.5 or 105.5 year cycle. It does appear that the oscillating mini  Ages of Venus connect us to a renewed spirit – culturally , scientifically, politically, religiously and philosophically shifting our perspectives, guiding our principles and shaping our values.  The shifting worldview is shaped by Venus, representing our changing values, our social attachments, what we are attached to, what is popular, what we like and what we dislike permeating culture, fashion, art, our connection to our environment, religion, politics, knowledge, science and all help inform and create the new world.

A brief look at the past few mini Ages from the Renaissance to now gives us an idea of some of the things that created waves and  shifts in collective consciousness.

1518 -1526 –  Gemini – 13 – 11   The Renaissance
A Rebirth on many levels promoting a spirit of discovery and new developments in the Arts, philosophy, science, religion and culture.
1517 – Martin Luther began the Reformation
1519 –  Magellan began the circumnavigation around the globe,
-  Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci (died)1519, Medici’s, Machiavelli, Paracelsus all thrived and left their legacies for the world to come.
1533 – Although a bit later, Copernicus first explained the heliocentric system to the Pope.

-  Pluto was in Capricorn for both the 1518 and 1526 transit s, along with Neptune and Chiron in Pisces for 1526

1631 – 1639 – Sagittarius 13 – 12 s   Age of Reason
A cosmological revolution in science and religion.
1610 – Galileo discovers Venus and her phases  and 1612 the Moons of Jupiter leading to developing further his ideas on the Solar System
1631 – Galileo published Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems
Far sighted Galileo was held up by the inquisition in 1633 jailed for rest of life where he wrote the  “Two New Sciences” and died in jail in 1642. Galileo built on the work of Copernicus a Venus Age before.
1637 – Descartes’ original statement was “Je pense donc je suis,” – “I think therefore I am” become the foundation of western philosophy
- This transit was predicted by Kepler who died in 1930, with the first transit to be seen and recorded was by Jeremiah Horrocks on December 4, 1639 in England
- Newton was born just after in 1642.

It is interesting to note that Pluto for any of these Transit dates will be in Capricorn for the Gemini Transit and in Taurus for the Sagittarian one. Global evolution, the transformative qualities of Pluto in earth signs and the Venus Transits marry up as guides for what lies at the heart of our global shifts in consciousness. Although these mini ages stem for years and decades before and after the dates for the transits we can view them as periods of shifting priorities, beliefs and focus.  We are now living in what I like to call an Age  of Awareness. Gemini Ages seem to relate to a flourishing of discoveries, inventions, new ideas, and an openness to shifting gears. Sagittarius Ages seem to define truth, doctrine, rules, and following the right path, focused, directed. Both Ages however carry with them the essence of the opposite polarity. In the macrocosm of Sagittarius the worldview, the big picture  we find the microcosm of Gemini, forever searching seeking,  learning and inventing and through the microcosm of forever searching ,seeking, learning and reinventing we gain a better understanding of the big picture, and so it continues. Our worldview seems to shift from going forward with a plan, guideline, belief,  connecting strongly to what we believe is the right way – Sagittarius,  to then questioning, rethinking, replanning, reinventing and relearning – Gemini.

In this Age of Awareness which follows a period of rapid growth, excess, greed, world wars, moving forward no matter what cost, we find ourselves in a world at a pivotal point. We face many environmental and ecological issues, coping  with dwindling resources, water and energy supplies. We are changing our minds and seriously re-thinking where we are heading. Many questions arise and we don’t know everything,  we are raising awareness, seeking truth and reprogramming the beliefs we once stood by. Our minds move to being more tuned to chaos theories, energy waves and vibrating atoms as we understand our world being shaped by invisible energy field’s and are no longer dedicated to Newtonian principles.   Terms such as Sacred Economics, Microbanking and other alternative systems are making inroads as alternatives to what we thought previously was always the only way.

Between 2004 and now 2012 with the world wide web at our fingertips a digital age and also a new vocabulary -  wikipedia, google , ipod, ipad,  texting, transparency etc etc and the great rise and rise of social media and networking, we are  constantly reminded of living in a rapidly changing world. Everyone is communicating somehow through the social networks, everyone is a blogger and has a voice, everyone has access to so much information, wrong or right and in true Gemini fashion sticks with the brotherhood or other like minded people to join some sort of cause. Tuning into the Zeitgeist

The Venus Transit connects us to the spirit of our changing world tuning right into the 1^st Pluto and Uranus square that happens 2.5 weeks after the Venus Transit on 24th June. The 2004 and 2012 Transits which occur at 15 and 17 degrees of Gemini, square the conjunction point of Pluto and Uranus of 1965 and 1966 which occurred at 16-17 degrees of Virgo.  Mars in the Venus Transit chart is also at 16 Virgo  and the Moon joins Pluto, accentuating, the collective urge for the catalysts of evolutionary Pluto and enlightening Uranus to bring real change to the world over the next few years. All these connections seem to be encouraged by Venus and the Sun’s creative spirit, remembering  that Venus was born from the creative essence of Ouranus and his severed genitals and she is also very atuned to visiting the underworld which she does regularly.

In 2012, two magnificent eclipses will shadow our Earth, one in May across Hong Kong, Tokyo, and across the Pacific Ocean into the western United States; and the other in November directly over Cairns, Australia. Astrologically, they both connect with very significant stars to which the ancients gave much spiritual credence.  These two eclipses both precede the end of the Mayan Calendar that is said to end on 21 December 2012 and, according to John Major Jenkins, an alignment of the Solstice Sun with the Milky Way culminates a World Age.¹

Eclipses come and go without much interest for many, however the Hermetic astrologers of the mystery schools of Egypt and Greece knew that an eclipse created a tunnel to higher realms where they could communicate directly with the star gods and access their sacred wisdom.  They were a cosmic thoroughfare and stellar gateway.  Scientific tests have shown that during an eclipse, electromagnetic fields increase in magnitude significantly, especially near sacred sites.  What could it mean for us?

On 20 May 2012 a solar eclipse will occur, one that I believe underlines why 2012 is so cosmically significant.  The Sun and Moon (the New Moon) will be exactly conjunct Alcyone, the central star of the Pleiades, in the constellation Taurus.  The Pleiadian star system has been one of the most revered cosmic objects in history, poetry and mythology across all cultures.  According to these cultural traditions, the seven visible stars of the Pleiades have been referred to by many names, such as the Seven Sisters, Krittika, Kimah, Flock of Doves, Hens, Virgins of Spring, Sailor’s Stars and the seven Atlantic Sisters.  The Pleiades were known as Seven Sisters by indigenous people in North Ameica, Siberia and Australia and this common heritage means they were described more than 40,000 years ago.²

The Pleiades seem to be among the first stars mentioned in astronomical literature, appearing in the Chinese annals of 2357 BCE with Alcyone, the lucida or brightest star, then being near the vernal equinox.  Their beginning of the year gave rise to the title ‘The Great Year of the Pleiades’ for the cycle of precession of about 25,900 years.³

Professor Charles Piazzi Smyth, in the late 19th century, suggested that that the seven chambers of the Great Pyramid of Giza commemorate these seven stars.⁴ There is a wonderful corresponding fact, that in the epoch of the Great Pyramids’ completion, at midnight on the autumnal equinox the Pleiades were distributed over the meridian of this pyramid, with Alcyone precisely on the line.⁵

What if the Great Pyramid was actually built (started 2336 BCE and completed by 2170 BCE) in honor of the Pleiades, when they rose at the vernal equinox, as suggested by Siess? According to Albert Churchward, the name of the Great Pyramid was ‘Khuti,’ which denoted the seven Lights, or Glorious Ones.  Egyptian texts allude to the Pleiades’ archaic significance as Krittitas, judges of men, assigning them also to seven planetary spheres as the seven Hathors.  The dead had to speak the names of these Goddesses to pass their ‘critical’ examination and enter paradise.⁶

I believe this is the source of the Judgement of the Dead linked with the month of November, when the Pleiades are high in the night sky.  In the Halls of Amenti, Maat and Thoth weighed the souls of the dead against the feather of truth as did Archangel Michael on the day of judgement, All Soul’s Day, 2nd November.  The ancient Celtic civilisation gathered to celebrate the festival of death, ‘Samhain,’ during the dark night of October 31st and at midnight, a time of death to the old year and birth to the new, it was the Celtic New Year.  November is the month of the dead and Scorpio and ruling planet Pluto are all connected with death and rebirth.  The Persians called November Mordad, or ‘Angel of Death.’  I often wonder how the zodiac signs acquired their symbolism, for example why Scorpio, the eighth house and ruler Pluto are all linked to death and rebirth.  What I have found through my research into The Pleiades, might be the answer.  It has been recorded in the Babylonian Talmud that the flood of biblical Noah was the result of two stars falling from Khima (the Pleiades) towards Earth.  Could this correspond with the legend of the lost Pleiad?  Was this the sinking of Atlantis and the end of the Golden Age and thus we still mourn the dead in November?  I discovered some very supportive evidence in the book When the Earth Nearly Died by Allen and Delair.  They argue that the world experienced total catastrophe in 9500 BCE when a supernova in the constellation Vela exploded and the Earth’s axis subsequently tilted to 23½ degrees and the Age of Darkness took hold.  What I found in the book was this:  ’Chinese traditions similarly tell how, during the time of the legendary emperor Ya-hou, a brilliant star issued from the constellation of Yin, prior to a tremendous global upheaval.’⁷

I searched my Chinese Astrology book and found the Yin Star to correspond with β Scorpii (Graffias, a triple star situated in the head of the Scorpion) and connected with plenty of water (flood).  The symbol of Yin and Yang thus represents Scorpio (Yin) and its opposite sign Taurus (Yang).  Remember that in November, the Sun is in Scorpio but at night the Pleiades are high in the sky, in Taurus.  Thus, does the symbolism of the constellations, zodiac signs and planets reflect actual historical events?  Many ancient traditions state that Alcyone was the central spiritual Sun that emits creative light, that which sends great teachers of light into the world.  It was believed to be the centre of the Universe around which our own solar system revolves but this idea is not supported by our current astronomers although in the 1850′s it was well accepted.  Science has at last discovered that the Sun is not a dead centre, with planets and comets wheeling around it but the Sun itself remaining stationary.  It is now ascertained that the Sun is also in motion, around some other and vastly mightier centre.  Astronomers are not fully agreed as to what or where that centre is.  Some, however, believe that they have found the direction of it to be the Pleiades, and particularly Alcyone.  To the distinguished astronomer Prof. J.H. Maedler belongs the honour of having made this discovery.  Alcyone, then, as far as science can perceive, would seem to be the ‘midnight throne’ in which the whole system of gravitation has a central seat, and from which the Almighty governs his universe.⁸

An astronomer will tell you this is complete rubbish but I want to go back to the ancient traditions.  Alcyone was called Al Wasat, the Central One by the Arabs, and Temennu, the Foundation Stone by the Babylonians.  The next quotation I found in a wonderful book on ancient constellations called the Mazzaroth:  ’Wasat, an Arabic name of Alcyone, transmitted by Ulugh Beigh from early Arabian astronomy, is the centre.  It thus testifies, like that of Alcyone, to the knowledge of the first astronomers of the long lost but lately removed fact, that in this group is the centre of the revolving, contains the same reference, if explained by its primitive roots.  The ancient name Alcyone, now so celebrated in the annals of science, is evidently of Oriental origin, having the Arabic and old Hebrew article Al, prefixed to its root Cyon, centre.  Its meaning, centre, foundation, anticipates one of the greatest achievements of modern astronomy, the discovery that to this point, this centre, gravitates the whole magnificent arrangement of the stars called the Galaxy, to which our sun belongs.’⁹

Does Cyon not sound like Sion/Zion – the heavenly city of God?  ’Glorious things of Thee are spoken, Zion city of our God.’ (Psalm 87).  The Hebrews believed it to be the City of David – the City of the Lord – the City of Foundation.  I found an intriguing article by Ken Raines on the Internet called ‘Jehovah:  Ancient Astronaut from the Pleiades?’¹⁰

Apparently for 62 years, 1891 – 1953, the Watchtower Society (Jehovah’s Witnesses) taught that God resided on the star Alcyone in the Pleiades and that from this star he governed the universe.  It was also stated that the City of Zion in heaven was Alcyone.  Much of this was based on Rev. Joseph Seiss’ book, Miracle in Stone, that he based heavily on Prof. Piazzi Smyth’s Our Inheritance in the Great Pyramid.  I’m going to add something here, just for a bit of bite.  According to David Icke,¹¹ Charles Taze Russell, the founder of the Watchtower Society was a high-degree Mason.  Why am I going here?  Because secret societies keep ancient wisdom behind locked doors.  I have a book by Robert Hewitt Brown, a 32-degree Mason called Stellar Theology and Masonic Astronomy.  On page 54 is a picture of a mystic ladder that leads to the seven stars of the Pleiades.  He explains:  ’This Masonic emblem, has a direct allusion to the vernal equinox, and thus becomes a beautiful symbol of immortality, reminding us, also, of that starry home beyond the grave to which the soul of man aspires. It was for these reasons that, of all the ‘hosts of heaven’ the Pleiades were selected as an emblem by our ancient brethren.¹²

Is there a Pleiadian conspiracy?  Who wants to keep us in the dark?  The Mayans called the Pleiades ‘the granary’ for it was the seedbed of their civilisation and the cosmic star mother who gave her children the codes of light.¹³

Jose Arguelles describes the beginning of the current Mayan Age from 3113 BCE – 2718BCE, which is said to end in 2012 CE, the Baktun of the Star Planting.  For him, the Maya were star-beings, from a starbase, possibly in the Pleiades called Valum Chivim.¹⁴

Does this suggest that every 5200 years, the Earth experiences a massive star seeding?  This brings me back to the eclipse in May 2012, conjunct Alcyone.  Remember the ancients believed an eclipse created a tunnel to their star gods – could a portal open directly to Alcyone?  If you believe all the channelled material regarding the Pleiadians, they are returning to aid our planetary ascension into a higher frequency.  In Australia, on 14 November 2012, a solar eclipse will shadow across our land, the centreline directly over Cairns.  This eclipse will be exactly conjunct the fixed star α Serpentis in zodiacal Scorpio.  The serpent is one of the most ancient of symbols denoting wisdom used by high initiates in the mystery schools. ‘Many Gnostic traditions identified the serpent with Jesus.  In the Pistis Sophia, Jesus was the serpent who spoke to Eve from the tree of knowledge and the tree of life, which were in the paradise of Adam.’¹⁵

Mark Amaru Pinkham in his book The Return of the Serpents of Wisdom, explores the worldwide migration of serpents, some from Mu (Lemuria), and others from Atlantis. They were called Nagas, Naguals, Nacaals, Adders, Djedhi, Amarus, Levites, Lung Dragons and Quetzalcoatls.  In ancient Aramaic, Jesus was called a ‘nagger’¹⁶ which in the Bible was mistranslated as a carpenter when in actual fact I found the word for carpenter to be ‘nanger.’  Jesus was a nagger – a serpent of wisdom.  According to Pinkham, at thirteen years of age, Jesus left Palestine and set off to study the mystery traditions of other branches of Serpents of Wisdom around the globe.  His subsequent adventures are currently mentioned within various records, including the travels of ‘Issa’ (Asian name for Jesus) which were discovered in 1887 by the Russian adventurer Nicholas Notavich in a monastery in Ladakh.¹⁷

There are many traditions which also state that the Serpents were extra-terrestrials. ‘Some of the Interstellar Serpents on Atlantis came from the Celestial Serpent, the Pleiades. According to Dhyani Ywahoo and the records of Cherokees, these androgynous Serpents are known as the ‘sacred seven,’ and are said to have travelled from the universal seat of Divine Mind, the Pleiades, in order to instil within developing humankind the spark of the individuated mind. Once on the Earth the Pleiadian missionaries mated with the human population and their progeny spread throughout Atlantis.’¹⁸

Could this be the source of the Fallen Angels in The Book of Enoch?

This Pleiadian and Atlantean mating was also mentioned by Greek historian Diodorus who claimed that Celoene and Alcyone, two of the seven Pleiadian sisters, had mated with Poseidon, King of Atlantis and their offspring populated Atlantis.  The Maya/Aztecs called the Pleiades the ‘tzab’ (rattle) – that of a snake – and every 52 years, in the middle of November, when the Pleiades were directly at the zenith at midnight at Mexican latitude, it was believed that the world would end; it had already been destroyed and re-created four times in the past.  The New Fire Ceremony was held once they knew that they were safe for another 52 years.  Using my Solar Fire astrology software, I calculated a chart for 14 November 2012 at midnight, at Yucatan in Mexico, and Alcyone is exactly at the zenith.  Therefore, the eclipse over Australia coincides with the New Fire Ceremony – the symbolic beginning of the New World.  52 years is a micro-cycle of the greater 5200 years of each of the Mayan world ages, these in turn being a fifth of the Great Cycle of 26,000 years, originally called the Great Year of Pleiades.  In 2012, we have reached the end of an Age and thus are at the dawn of a New World.

In esoteric literature, Australia has always been believed to be the land to host a mass spiritual awakening. Australia is said to be a fragment of Lemuria or ‘Mu’ – an ancient motherland of advanced spiritual light beings (nagas) now below the Pacific Ocean.  The Australian Aborigines are believed to be direct descendants of the people of Lemuria, much like the Native Americans, Mayans and Incas.  Will this eclipse put Australia on the map as the spiritual center of the New Age?  See you in Cairns!

Astronomy
Mercury is never further than 28 degrees of longitude away from the Sun. It is a fast moving inner planet and is therefore seen in phases. Mercury is hard to see because of its proximity to the Sun, visible for a period of weeks in the evening (occidental) or the morning(oriental). Due to its weak gravity, Mercury has no protective atmosphere and, like the Moon is full of craters. Mercury rotates slowly making only one and a half rotations for each cycle around the Sun.

Energy/Archetype
Mercury’s energy is fast, unpredictable, quick, changeable and flexible.
Mercury is known as the messenger planet, representing the formulation, exchange and movement of ideas through speaking, writing & networking.
Mercury is known as a hermaphrodite: neutral and asexual, as is the mind.
Mercury is logical, reasonable and rational, and embodies the principle of intellect.
Mercury collects thoughts, words, information, facts, trivia and evidence, and is ‘in-the-know’.
Mercury symbolises our functions of perception (i.e. what we think and how we learn) and communication (i.e. how we speak, write and express ourselves).
Mercury is the ‘psychopomp’ who can bridge the gap between Mount Olympus and the Underworld, and therefore bridges the gap between separate experiences, eg. mind and soul, reality and unreality, knowing and not knowing.
Mercury is known as the trickster planet and represents versatility, flexibility, curiosity and fun.
Mercury changes from malefic to benefic and from masculine to feminine depending on which planets it connects with.

Astrological cycle
Mercury is closely tied to the Sun in its movement around the astrological chart, with its furthest distance from the Sun never more than 28 degrees. It takes either less than a year or just over a year to move around an astrological chart, depending on its retrograde cycle, which happens every three months for about 3 weeks. Mercury retrograde begins as Mercury moves closer to the earth and toward an inferior conjunction, then moves behind the Sun to a superior conjunction when it is not retrograde. Mercury moves at speeds up to 2 degrees per day, when on the opposite side to the Earth near superior conjunction and up to -1 degree when retrograde near inferior conjunction.

Diurnal (Day-time) Mercury, Ruler of Gemini

When rising before the Sun, Mercury is known as Diurnal, Promethean and Oriental.
Mercury’s outward, exposed, forward-moving, future-oriented nature is highlighted here – these are all masculine, solar energies.
Diurnal Mercury starts a new cycle when Mercury is closest to the earth in an inferior conjunction and finishes at a superior conjunction, rising before the Sun.
When Oriental, Mercury is a Hot and Moist energy, ie. outward-moving and sociable.

Aries Ingress 2012 – March 20th UTC

On March 20 UTC 2012 the Sun returns to the beginning of the zodiac as it enters the sign of Aries.  A long-held tradition of astrologers is to look at the year ahead by analysing the chart cast for what is known as the Aries Ingress, the exact time the Sun enters the sign of Aries.  At this Ingress we also celebrate one of the equinoxes, when the Sun moves from the South to the North crossing the Equator and defining the beginning of the seasons of spring in the North and autumn in the South.

The Aries Ingress for last year (2011) featured an exact Sun/Uranus conjunction at 0º Aries right at the beginning of the zodiac and a Moon/Saturn conjunction in the sign of Libra opposite Mercury and Jupiter also in Aries.  This promised a year of rising passions and radical shifts; a year of upheaval, during which we witnessed the ousting of dictators, nuclear threats and the rise of the Occupy movement, the radical agents protesting and standing up for themselves against the establishment, corporations and governmental control. This year the flavour is similar as Uranus, still at the beginning of the zodiac, is joined by the Sun, although a few further degrees apart, this time making room for a retrograde Mercury in between.  The Moon is conjunct Neptune, which has only recently entered Pisces to stay for the next 14 years.

The Sun represents our collective vision, conscious growth and enlightenment, but also those we reward and elect as representatives (supposedly!) of the people, which were monarchs, emperors and heroes in the past and now translate to Presidents, prime ministers, despots and dictators.  The Moon represents the people, the feelings of the collective and their sense of security.

With Mercury retrograde between radical Uranus and the Sun at this ingress,  our views in general in regard to world governance are skewed and unsettled:  in whom do we trust?  The Sun is also physically restless at the moment bursting out constant  Sun flares, adding symbolically to our attitudes towards Leaders throughout the world.  We won’t be seeing change as quickly as we’d like this year with this connection, there is so much to re-evaluate before things move on and change quick enough for the better. Electing better representatives that help lead us forward, or show signs of enlightened thinking would be a welcome change. We just heard that Julian Assange, will be running for the Australian senate, look forward to hearing more on that issue, there is hope for us yet!

So much to review with Mercury retrograde at such an important turning point in the year. Interestingly Mercury retrogrades or Mercury stations at an Aries Ingress happen every 6 years sometimes for two years in a row, last times were 2005 and 2006. Everywhere we look this year we see signs of Mercury, with eclipses in Gemini, Mercury ruled as well as the rare Transit of Venus happening with Venus’ next retrograde loop in the sign of Gemini. The Transit a 105-120 year cycle and the retrograde loop in the sign of Gemini being an 8 year cycle. This rare transit is a sure sign to reevaluate, reassign, reconfigure, re-do, re-adjust, re-think and re-program  ourselves with what’s most important in this world. A retrograde Venus is Venus in the underworld, confronted to face her demons, let go and start afresh. On a world scale this seems highly significant. With the fixed star Regulus also having moved recently into Virgo , are we truly being challenged to lighten up, and lighten up from such  destructive material dependance, as the return of Quetzalcoatl in 2012 suggests. 2013 seems activated for faster change when Mars meets Uranus at 6 and 7 Aries for the Aries Ingress. This year Mars is also retrograde and is in mutual reception with Mercury as they are both in each other’s signs and retrograde.  Although we will no doubt see some radical, unexpected and new developments that surprise and shock us take place again this year with the Sun conjunct Uranus, there is an indicator that many issues we’d like to see move on and be resolved, finalised and finally change or shift, will be taking their time.  Building our new world needs to be cleverly thought through.  Some have the answers, but are the right people listening?

Expect more scandals and covers-ups, as well as many more people voicing their opinions.  With a balsamic Moon conjunct Neptune, people are perceptive and aware of more than they are given credit for, but are also feeling cheated and deprived as though much is being taken from them, yet they continue with spiritual hope.  We are ready to collude and take on supportive if not sacrificial roles to build a better world.   We have a strong urge to build and plant the seed for what comes next, knowing that the seed is still a while away from sprouting.  A balsamic Moon waning, between Neptune and Chiron, brings the many themes we have been  dealing with to the fore, we feel the pain, we feel like letting go, we feel like giving up,  we feel like screaming, sometimes it seems hopeless but we also feel like we could sacrifice much for a better world.. The collective spirit has arisen and continues to grow, we have set it alight and it is imperative to trust in the process,  not to give up but to continue to believe in the possibilities of change.  Our spiritual yearnings take hold and keep those who are willing strong as Saturn continues to trine in on Neptune’s quest.

A trine from Uranus to the Moon’s north node shows there is progress on some fronts, where we are heading is a focus. Uranus feeds the Nodes squared by Mars and exactly opposes Chiron;  we all somehow don’t fit with the agendas laid out for us.  Mars is fighting in a different way:  opposite Chiron our differences, our points of view, our attitudes on how to heal the state we are in stem from so many different fronts and motives, how do we compromise? The square of these two pained planets challenged by the Nodes suggests we need to review the direction in which we are heading and take on a different approach.  Perhaps we do need to fight more, stand up more for what is important, go out on a limb.  So much just goes on above and over our heads and we need to act lest we be left behind, to act because we’ve been hurt before, to act so we won’t be hurt as badly again.

To top it off Ceres and Eris combine at the exact degree at 21 Aries. We can all identify to some extent with feeling left out of the decisions being made for all of us, or not being let in on what’s really going on, not being told everything we feel we should know.  We aren’t invited to take part, speak up, or are even listened to, as things like fracking continue to destroy our earth, being just one serious example.  At least the two determined feminine archetypes join forces, to consolidate strength this year.  Strife and determination is part of their make-up and giving in is not one of their options.  It seems that Eris came to consciousness as the goddess who upset the apple cart of planetary hierarchy, after her discovery in 2003. The goddess of strife and discord, consequently demoting Pluto and promoting Ceres.  Eris is also known for making mountains out of molehills creating and causing havoc and making things bigger than they are.  Maybe it is just what we need to wake us up further , or to be heard.  Make a commotion, make some noise, be noticed:  we can’t rest until we see more effective change.  With Neptune in Pisces maybe more will be done with a more passionate backing, not just activism from our fingertips on computers,  but with a more powerful collective voice.  Be inspired by the drive and tenaciousness of both Eris and Ceres in Aries.

A grand trine in Earth, having just perfected at 9º Earth signs, is still in effect and shows a year bursting for change but stuck in a rut.  Rewards will be felt in some places, determination and strength hold us in place, but the stability of an Earth trine is not as stable as we’d like, with Pluto and Mars both retrograde.  Jupiter and Venus accentuate greed and holding onto what we have, or they have, many get away with murder, as others continue to struggle to stay alive. Money  is still a grand motivator and not something that attitudes will be changing on too fast,  the power of money holds power over the imagination and makes it very hard to move on from material dependence.  This is a signal to lighten up our burden and perhaps a portent of the changes to the structure of the planet itself.

The Black Moon Lilith joins Jupiter at this Equinox. As Jupiter and Venus continue to put on a gorgeous evening sky show, till Jupiter disappears into the Sun’s beams in late April ,  don’t forget Lilith stands close by. The Black Moon is a point of power, an invisible focal point, a node of the Moon’s elliptical orbit around the Earth. The Black Moon Lilith represents a bold and brazen feminine archetype that doesn’t give in to male domination and strives for equality. Lilith is the ancient feminine power of creation, growth, decay and destruction and represents a strong force of self-empowerment. Traveling closely with Jupiter over the next few months, she is part of the earthly line up and represents the rise in feminine wisdom, as she stands by Jupiter. As Venus moves toward maximum elongation by the end of March, showing off her real beauty, we grasp the need for aesthetics, love and beauty in our own lives and the troubled world around us. Trans-formative Pluto and Mars the warrior, also aligned in the Earth trine give us all motivation to go forth and do what must be done.

The Uranus , Sun, Mercury rx conjunction shows up on th IC for Washington DC, on the MC in China, rising in central Europe (with Pluto on the MC in Greece) and setting in the Pacific over Hawaii. Other hotspots with the Mars Chiron, and Moon Neptune lines  intersecting quite closely, through middle USA and Mexico City MC – IC axis, reversed in India. Transit Highlights – all dates UT

March 5th

From one thing to the next, after a Venus Saturn, Sun Mars kinda weekend, today Mercury meets Uranus at 3 Aries and Venus moves into the sign of Taurus. Mercury and Venus both evening stars now ahead of the Sun in the Zodiac are considered Epimethean in nature as they set after the  Sun,  when they rise before the Sun they are morning stars and associated with being Promethean.

Epimethius in Greek myth is the brother of Prometheus. Epimetheus represents afterthought and Prometheus forethought..

When  Mercury or Venus, the inner planets are about to turn retrograde like Mercury is in a weeks time, it is always from an evening star position and starts to slow down in it’s cycle as the Sun then catches up to it, after which it becomes the morning star again.

Hard to imagine slowing down with Mercury approaching Uranus, Uranus essentially a Promethean type of archetype, but with Mercury in this position slowing down, our thoughts may be more deliberately focused on change, than thrust upon us,  our sense of purpose or progress is strengthened, as we’re not jumping ahead and being careless. Now with Venus in Taurus we are more determined to see results, and more embedded with a purpose or cause. Venus knows what she’s after in Taurus and the combo of a slow Mercury and Uranus together give us an edge of being able to grasp something, make something from usually fleeting thoughts or ideas, concocting something that previously we may not have given the time and effort to produce.

Mercury will be back at this point 2 more times due to rx cycle highlighting new beginnings that aren’t so new as the rx goes back into Pisces- moving on may not be so easy, is there something you forgot?

March 3rd
The Sun opposes Mars at 13 Pisces – Virgo
Mars retrograde Sun in Pisces perhaps this time with a subdued Mars, the Sun can illuminate some issues, to be inspired to do things differently, times they are a changing and it’s best to readjust accordingly.

March 4th
Vesta meets Uranus at 3 Aries
What a coupling,  with the Mars Sun opposition still active, being calm may not be possible, but Vesta adds a touch of  centering to the feelings of uncertainty at the moment, focus on something to help with the  chaos bubbling up  as Mercury approaches Uranus.

March 5th
Mercury conjuncts Uranus, as Venus leaves Aries for Taurus. Sensible and ready to work at it, is Venus in Taurus. The Chaos at the beginning of Aries maybe unsettling, but get used to it it’s around for a while so may as well just keep at it.

March 8th
Full Moon at 18 degrees Virgo -
To add to all the Chaos the Full Moon like always accentuates what’s at the forefront in our lives.  The Moon in Virgo is what we need to keep focused and now Mercury calms himself with Vesta before going backwards. Practice the words- “how can I help”  – serve and be of service to the greater good and see what wonders that can do for your frayed nerves.

March 13th
Stationing at 6 Aries on 11th March, Mercury turns retrograde after 40 hours standstill. Note what shift that day, as it will help inform the next 3 weeks and what it will be about for you. During 2012 Mercury begins its retrograde cycles starting in fire signs and ending in water signs. This time the retrograde begins in Aries and moves back to Pisces. The next retrograde period begins in Leo and retrogrades back into Cancer, then Sagittarius and back to Scorpio. From fire, moving forward, we get caught up back in the water,  held up by the past. Indicators of frustration and being held up, not a sign of moving or leaping easily ahead.

March 14th
Grand Earth trine – Jupiter and Venus at 9 Taurus, trine rx Mars at 9 Virgo and all trine Pluto at 9 Capricorn.
Quite auspicious for the Ides of March(the 15th) but close enough. This could be quite a rewarding energy if time has bee well spent. Earth signs remind us of how embedded we are, in work, commitments, money, investments as well as health, diet, organization, the reality of it all and the practicality of it all. How it all goes together, works or not works or could work better is the highlight of this trine. Jupiter and Venus both in Taurus seem insatiable, Mars rx in Virgo reminds us of that, and Pluto in Capricorn is the constant loud rumble in the background threatening it all. A grand Earth trine would otherwise feel more stable, not with this combination. More on this later.

29th Feb, the day we have when we have to adjust our solar year. The Sun squares the nodes(see yesterdays post) and aligns with the fixed stars Aldebaran and Antares. Exactly opposite in the heavens at 9 Sagittarius and 9 degrees Gemini. Antares a red star, the heart of the scorpion, the constellation of Scorpio(not the sign) and Aldebaran, the eye of the Bull, in the constellation of Taurus(not the sign).

It may seem confusing, but is essential to understanding the difference between the Signs in Astrology, linked to the Tropical moving zodiac which begins at zero Aries and is linked to the seasons and the exact Equinox and the Constellations in the sky which were once aligned with the tropical zodiac 2000 years ago. Now the two, the Signs and the Constellations have moved out of sync by 25 degrees at a rate of 1 degree every 72 years, this is called the Precession of the Equinox. in another 24 thousand years of so, these two will once again align at the same place as the wobble of the Earth, completes a full circle.

This is something the media and scientist always make out that Astrologers don’t know, and try and tell you your sign has changed, That your no longer a Leo, but a Cancer. The constellations were the backdrop of the signs, and still carry their symbols, like the constellation Scorpius does look like a Scorpion with a curved tail, many others are not so clear. Have you ever tried to make out the Sagittarius constellation? It looks like a bunch of fireworks!

The Sun square the Nodes. With the Sun in Pisces and the North Node in Sagittarius although squaring each other have a special connection as they are both Jupiter ruled. They were last conjunct on Dec 7th 2011, with a retrograde Mercury, where visions of the future may have been there, but not so easily accepted. Now the square between the two accentuates both sides of Jupiter, expanding our ways, ideas and visions, Pisces creatively and Sagittarius wisely. If you have Sagittarius or Pisces friends you know that they usually get on Ok, especially if there is a party, staying up late, philosophising, talking about the meaning of life and it’s mysteries. The character of signs tells us of their meaning. A square from these signs is about having to intergrate both aspects and make them work together.

A creative visionary comes to mind, but how to keep it real or make it into something is the issue. With ruler Jupiter now in Taurus, feeling maybe a bit stuck and not as free as he’d like whilst in Taurus,  these creative visions, must be worked on and don’t come out of nothing!

So integrating these two signs, would come with a caution – watch going or being over the top, saying or doing more than you should, or wanting to, going somewhere too fast, impatience(remember too Mars is retrograde) watch your step, but keep the vision strong and makes sure your try and doing something with it!

With Sun in Pisces, we dream of perfect scenarios. The Sun representing our spirit and what motivates and ignites us, our purpose , and the North Node, where we are heading, locked to the South Node of where we have been, the North Node in Sagittarius asks as to be clear about where we are heading, have a vision , stick by our own codes and propel ourselves forward  living by our own truth.

Both signs  seek freedom in their own way, born to be wild and free is what these two signs remind us of,  so whatever your planning and have a vision for (North Node in Sagittarius)  is now being infused with more feeling and creative energy and a spark of divine intervention,(Sun in Pisces) helping us to be more connected to universal causes, not just our own.

An exact conjunction of Chiron and Sun happens today at the same time as a renewed Moon on Aries conjunct Uranus.

Uranus and Chiron have similarities. Both attuned to bridging gaps, being outsiders, mavericks and and seen as strange or different in some ways.The luminaries illuminate these two today to remind us to integrate further our sense of individuality, our task of accepting who and what we are.

We think of Astrologers with Uranus, astrology’s modern ruler, and Chiron as we identify ourselves as healers and outsiders still not quite accepted by society, sitting on the fringes, speaking our own language, often misunderstood.

Well most of us don’t care as we get on with doing our work, knowing we are helping people, healing people on the way, igniting for them a new vision, a path, an acceptance of themselves and the situations they find themselves in. One of my most rewarding experiences as an Astrologer is that we have a mechanism that counselors or healers of different sorts don’t have. And that is timing, with the astrological outlook we can tell our clients that – this will pass in such a period of time, transits, progressions, directions, profections our magical tools are our unique system of guidance and navigation.

Today the Suns alignment with Chiron also align with the fixed Star Fomalhaut, which is currently at 4 Pisces. As one of the 4 Royal Stars defining the four corners of the heavens, Fomalhaut is the Star placed at the mouth of the fish in the constellation Pisces and represents an opening up to the unknown, the unseen and is strongly associated with the mysterious, the occult and generally the otherworld and what lies beyond, very fitting now placed in Pisces for another 1500 years of so. It will always be in the same place at the mouth of the fish, but due to precession will move into the sign of Aries as will the constellation. But for now and for a long time it is in Pisces and with Neptune heading this way in the next few years, what opens up to us will be truly amazing.

To see Fomalhaut as a star is to see something quite different, it’s not your average bright shiny star, but is broad and nebulous like.When looking at it it seems to fade in and out, but once focused on it becomes quite mesmerizing. We can’t see it now as of course its in the Suns beams, in August it will be back in the high heavens at midnight when the sun is in Leo.

Take time today to notice your own unique journey, celebrate the gift of Astrology as our unique tool of guidance – especially helpful when we look into the mysterious unknown.

For every New Moon or Full Moon, we can look back 19 years, to see what was happening at that same degree and sign 19 years ago, give or take a day or two. This is known as the metonic cycle.

Last time there was New Moon at 2 Pisces was on Feb 22 1993. At this time Uranus and Neptune were conjunct at 20 degrees Capricorn and Pluto was in Scorpio.

Today’s new Moon is placed between Neptune and Chiron with the asteroid Pallas Athena. Mercury in Pisces squares the Nodal axis. Saturn still at 29 Libra, Mars retrograde, Venus moving along in Aries, Pluto with asteroid Bacchus, see below, in trine to Jupiter in Taurus.

Well what to make of this new energy. Pisces reflects the past, helps us connect to our depths, memories and feelings so the freshness of the New Moon, helps us to incorporate the past with the future, as Pisces does best anyway. As this New Moon cycle is the last in the zodiac, the next being at  2 Aries just after the Aries Ingress on March 24th, would be seen as the “Real” new beginning as this next New Moon will also conjunct Uranus and a retrograde Mercury.

Plans your making right now, may not seem all that grounded or real enough yet. Let that be OK. Others may be pinching themselves, because some things dreamed about, worked on and fought over are now beginning to blossom. Count your blessings, even if you yearn for more, a Pisces quality,  try and be  gracious about what you have, not what you haven’t and see your world change around you. Invite positive energy to your life as this Moon and the placement of the Neptune and Chiron, brings with it a great amount of healing and moving onto better things.

Pisces knows how to let go of what is necessary, but also knows how to keep the treasure wherever that may be found and take that with them into the next cycle.

Today, during the balsamic Moon and a Sun Neptune conjunction the asteroid known as Bacchus is conjunct Pluto at 8 degrees Capricorn.

The asteroid Bacchus 2063 was discovered in 1977, by the same man Kowal that discovered Chiron, Although only a small asteroid it is known as an Apollo, Mars and Venus crosser, meaning that it crosses the orbits of Apollo, Mars and Venus  during it’s own orbit around Earth which takes only a little over a year, therefore fast moving . Apollo, Mars, Venus crosser, I’m sure Bacchus has nothing against Gay marriage or the striving for individual needs(Apollo)

We don’t consider the effects of Asteroid unless they are within one degree of a planet or other significant point when looking at astrological charts or transits, so what do we make of this brief transit of Bacchus in front of Pluto?

Bacchus God of wine and  merrymaking, Greek Dionysus, is the God with a cult following.  He is a liberator,  and partaking in his mysterious cult liberates and frees the individual.  Bacchus’s cult of  “wine, music and ecstatic dance frees his followers from self-conscious fear and care, and subverts the oppressive restraints of the powerful . So today Bacchus conjuncts another powerful God, Pluto,  is reminding us to partake in something greater, something that stems from the mysteries, that comes to us from somewhere beyond ourselves and our own ego’s.  In a world where we can feel so under the thumb, ruled by the powerful elite and the moneymakers- Plutocrats, let’s not forget what cult we belong to. A very important cult developing around the world, that involves changing the world for the better is here to stay.

We are all working together somehow to “subvert the oppressive restraints of the Powerful” – here’s cheers to all of us that believe and live life for liberation and freedom for all!

The Sun moves into Pisces and joins Neptune. A New Moon soon after highlights Neptune at Zero Pisces. A New Moon won’t happen this close to Neptune in Pisces till a Solar eclipse on Feb 26th 2017 @ 8 degrees and then March 7th 2019 @ 15 degrees. See yesterdays post below, for info on New Moon in Pisces and Sun conjunct Neptune!

Well you never stop being a mother, nor an Astrologer really once you start.

During the New Moon, the asteroid named Bacchus, conjuncts Pluto. How appropriate! Watch over indulgence for sure.

Fix -19 Feb – 2012

The Sun now at the edge of Aquarius.  Saturn and the Sun are in trine both at 29 degrees, reflecting the journey of hard work and effort we all put in to live a good, rewarding life, but with Saturn retrograde at this degree we re-evaluate some relationship entanglements and the way they may interfere or support our journey. The Sun in Aquarius is  ruled by two planets. Traditionally Saturn, and then there is the modern ruling planet Uranus, both add to Aquarius being a mix of the old and the new, the stable and the unstable, the progress up until now and the goals of the future. Our time in Aquarius, has been readying ourselves for Pisces.

The Sun moves into Pisces and joins Neptune. A New Moon soon after highlights Neptune at Zero Pisces. A New Moon won’t happen this close to Neptune in Pisces till a Solar eclipse on Feb 26th 2017 @ 8 degrees and then March 7th 2019 @ 15 degrees.

The Sun becomes diffused (click on Picture above) in Pisces it is nourished by things from another realm which no other sign can offer. Thru its journey in the zodiac the Sun is perhaps most out of place in Pisces, where it doesn’t shine in full glory, but illuminates the unknown or the unseen, it creates sparkles and profound images, which all help us navigate ourselves from a different source. But what a great place it can be for a while. A place to escape, to ponder eternity and grasp a spiritual byte or too! And with Neptune right here too, every little fish will be feeling it, feeling a great urge, a pining for more , a more divine existence, and contemplating in ourselves how we can get there, or how close or not we really are to spiritual enlightenment.

With Mars in Virgo during this time, trying to be diligent and alert, fixing and serving our way to perfection, highlights Pisces urges. Mars represents drive and energy and how we use it. So how are we using our energy to serve, heal ourselves , heal others and the world around us, not the usual Martian passtime, somewhat out of sorts, but now being held captive by strong Pisces causes.

Pallas Athena together with Mercury both rational types, are in the land of nod and nodding off too, maybe a reminder to chill out for  a while, book a holiday or some time away.. Our yearnings now need some attention and they don’t come from a rational place, but from emotions and feelings, imaginings and dreams. Allow yourself to feel your way. A great mission from both Neptune and Pisces, is  to  learn to trust feeling our way  and have faith it where that takes us.

Pisces is the end of the zodiac cycle and year, next the Aries Ingress defines the year ahead. Take this time to dance and sing with life, to nourish yourself in your own depths and rejoice in your experience. AT the end of the cycle we nurture the seeds for the next one to begin, therefore, rejuvenate, heal, relax  and renew your spirit. Book a concert, join a dance, escape to nature, take it all in,  breathe.

The ebbs and flows of the Sun changing signs reminds us of the eternal dance of the cosmos, to be in touch with these grand cosmic cycles is living the magic that exists all around us, rejoice in its wonder and participate in its wisdom.

Fix 18-Feb -2012

Over the next few days the trickster planet Mercury, squares the Dragon’s Head and tail in Sagittarius and Gemini. The focus on the mutable signs, with Mars retrograde in Virgo, tells of our missions, collective and personal being transmuted, shared and circulated.

Whilst the cardinal signs  start the world going around (Aries,Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) the fixed signs then keep the world going round (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), whereas the mutable signs- Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces all continue, to make the world go round. The mutable signs also corresponding to the end of seasons, they are future oriented and concerning themselves about the next cycle about to begin, handing over to the cardinals again.

How’s your world going round?

Lots of decisions being made, plans being shared, directions being drawn. With Mercury in creative Pisces, often seen as not a great place for the highly rational planet, because there is nothing clear or definite enough in Pisces,  or is there?.  Although the psychopomp is attuned to traveling in different realms, in Pisces Mercury is challenged to think differently, as the realm of Pisces is like no other.  However, Mercury’s challenged position is nevertheless a key to the mutable line up at the moment and how our plans are being channeled.

With the North Node in Sagittarius and the Node’s ruler Jupiter, in practical Taurus(and don’t forget that magical connection of Jupiter and Neptune by sextile in Venusian signs) together allowing us to grasp everything , if not in  a clearer fashion, at  least in a more enlightened way.

Pluto discovered 1930 18th February – it’s made 82 revolutions of the Earth since we found out about it. Nearly a Uranus cycle, discovered with Uranus in Aries too. It’s been transformed in it’s life time from a Planet and reclassified as a Dwarf as the discovery of more Trans Neptunian Objects threatened it’s stature. Eris goddess of discord started it by being discovered,( remember planet X, nicknamed Xena the warrior princess) throwing the apple into the planetary party and consequently changed the rules in 2006.
