Saturn and Uranus Stationary

PART III – MIDPOINT
Looking at the relationship between Saturn and Uranus, which at this moment separating away from a near 150° (inconjunct) aspect, we note that although these two planets did not exactly inconjunct on this occasion (it came close by 8’ of 1°), they did indeed on three other recent occasions of this roughly 45 year cycle, which began in 1988.
Nov 16th 2012

Oct 5th, 2013
We must consider these periods in our lives as a lead-up to understanding the effects we are currently undergoing, both on a personal and global level.
Firstly the inconjunct (150°) angle in itself:
The inconjunct (or quincunx) implies a relationship between two points in the zodiac that are neither in accordance by element nor modality. Uranus in Aries (Cardinal/Fire) has no affinity to Saturn in Scorpio (Fixed/Water). These guys simply have zero in common – they not only come from different backgrounds, they speak an entirely different language. At best they are a curiosity to one another. At worst they make each other uncomfortable because they simply don’t understand each other. Either way, there is an element of distrust because the two just do not get along.
In a scenario where these two guys might need to co-exist, they would prefer that they did not mix together at all. A + B would not live on the same block, they would not work alongside each other, unless A worked either for (as an employee) or on (as a client) B. Their kids would not associate easily due to cultural differences and parental-imposed prejudices. Mainly, they would would certainly not socialise together unless it was a forced affair.
Secondly let’s compare the two Planets:
Since we have already described these in some depth individually (see PARTS I & II) i will do a brief recap for this exercise:
SATURN - Limitation, solidification, discipline structure, responsibility, conservatism, timing (Builder of boundaries)
URANUS – Eccentricity, rebellion, disruption, revolution and change, technology & innovation, intuition & brilliance (Breaker of Walls)
As we briefly mentioned yesterday, these two guys are clearly the antithesis of each other, despite the fact that their orbits are side by side. Only a small planetoid, Chiron, separates them (more on why he is the Bridge-Builder another time). Each of these two planets vibrate with contradictive agendas, so they do not make very good neighbours in the first place.
SATURN in Scorpio (S) inconjunct URANUS in Aries (U)
They don’t get along because S & U are speaking a completely different language. They dress differently and they have completely unusual approches to life in every aspect.
URANUS in Aries (U) is a rough and ready, headstrong, impulsive resistance fighter who will not settle for being tied down to anyone or anything. He insists on going his own way without respect to manners or civil code. He is the primal rebel, shoots first, then refuses to cede to any responsibility or accept any consequences. He would rather die free than be contained.
SATURN in Scorpio (S) is an authoritarian investigator, a real penetrating, inquisitive prick who brings a sense of retributive justice about him. This guy is trying to enforce structure and legislation from a place of deep vengeance and will exact justice for wrongs committed, whether recent or forgotten.
Both these guys are pissed. And rightly so. They each have their “reasons”. They each want to have it their way, very badly. Each one is on their own journey to self exploration, one is very blatant and impish in his ways, the other is broodingly deep and mysterious in his quest.
Too bad neither can either sympathise with one another and neither are actually able to work together without causing an upset.
Which brings us to this point.
SATURN/URANUS MIDPOINT (1°AQ35’)
The midpoint of these two vibrating energies is the exact half-way point between them on the zodiac dial. Without getting too technical, this is the most potent point in the combination because it describe the resulting force. So:
Saturn + Uranus =
Irritable behaviour arising when one bastard tries to enforce his rules upon the other, which turns to irritation and kicking against the pricks to preserve rights to freedom. Quarrels ensue, these turn to separations, then comes the nasty rock throwing, which sometimes escalates into eruptions of awfully violent scenes…. etc…(ugly??)
On the plus side, these guys will eventually grow stronger through the overcoming of their differences and the excruciatingly difficult times they put each other through. But only after some serious muck-raking trials and traumatic tribulations.
See? there’s a good side to just about everything!
Anyway, we just wanted to introduce everyone to the midpoint flavour of the month, since it has been stuck at 1°AQ35’ for the past 10 days and will continue to stay there for another 10. And when it moves on, it won’t be in a hurry. it stays well near 1°AQ35’ for the next month… Those of you feeling it most strongly probably have at least one fixed (Scorpio, Aquarius, Taurus, Leo) planets around the 1°-2°.
If this is the case, then you are experiencing a revolutionary struggle of your very own, either firsthand or by watching it unfold around you, perhaps in an active or passive participation.
It’s good. Although a bit disruptive and often shocking and upsetting in its way. This current combination of planetary forces is just priming us to get our act together and wake up to some of the flimsy ways we try to adhere to in order to make things work.
Are our structures able to contain us or do we really need to kick them down?
Maybe we need to open our eyes a little now. Maybe things have become a little hard to manage because all of this rapidly accelerating technology has made us excessively restless and somewhat disassociated with our earthy reality and its physical domains. Are we really taking forever to do anything in the real world because we are too busy posting information about ourselves to each other on these confounded iGadgets? Is technology aiding or inhibiting our adherence to the social contract? Are we in possession of information or equipment which, if misused, can be dangerously destructive to our pursuit of happiness?
At some point east meets west on these matters, and this point in time we need to nut it out for a solution.
Perhaps a new approach approach is going to have to be that we stop trying to fit the old into the new paradigm. Or maybe stop trying to bring the new into the framework of the old. Our relationships with one another may have to undergo a complete shake-up. Since most of us are already used to the depersonalized mode of relating these days, thanks to innovative new alternatives to looking each other in the face at the dinner table, or even in a conference room. Certainly anyone younger than 60 is surely learning how to keep it cool – no strings attached. And the kids? Well… they are a complete different species of zybots (not being cynical, just try to remove their iPod – see how they cope).
In the coming days, this AQUARIAN Sat/Ura midpoint will see the following procession of planets run past:
- 23 JUL – Jupiter in Leo = S/U – A turn for the better after some seriously stressful times, a release of tension and help at the right time, words of wisdom or support.
- 24 JUL – Sun in Leo = S/U – Superman arrives to save the day, a heroic show of strength and super-human endurance against the tutelage of adversity and conflict.
- 27 JUL – A New Moon near this midpoint. – A new dawn rises for the world. The key lessons from all our troubles are learned and we are not only wiser but there is a resolution to actually embark on a new approach to rebuilding our structures, this time with the infusion of new ideas and attitudes, with respect to individual freedoms and rights. (this new moon will have great lasting impact, and the world may not change in a day, but the resolutions, and treaties we make around this time will resonate for ages)
- 29-30 JUL – Mars in Scorpio - Violence and turmoil erupts as a backlash and release of pent up tension that has suddenly reached the surface.. Activism and protest which could possibly turn ugly. (clearly not a good day to push anyone’s buttons
- 1 AUG – Mercury in Leo - An immediate sorting out of the fine details around the implementation of any agreements to try to restore some clarity and allow freedom of movement and create discussion, communication, flow.
Thank you for following this series, hope it has been at least informative. I you have missed the first two installments please read on. Those undergoing difficult times and in need of specific attention may contact me directly for a consultation. Details are at the bottom of this page. Stay tuned for more updates – Ang Stoic
- 13 AUG Venus in Leo - Attempts to create peace, diplomatic and cordial conduct, most likely introducing a separation for harmony’s sake. Cease fire and peace pacts which are primarily a temporary measure, but allow the tension to dissipate.
PART II – URANUS
(for PART I, posted yesterday, please scroll down)
If the hard, constrictive energy of Saturn stationing can liken our experience to something resembling a four-week stay in a concentration facility where, fed on meager rations of bread and water , we are made to slave away until our spirit is broken, then Uranus is the revolutionary urge to rise up and revolt, and set our spirit free again.
Since Uranus’ orbit is considerably farther out from Saturn’s, the outer planet will appear frozen around its turning point (16°30’ Aries, July21, 23:21UT) for around 2 months as he switches from direct (Dx) to retrograde (Rx) motion. This means that the insurgent buzz of Uranus began to be applied to a concentrated area well before the more stern and methodical entry of Saturn into the affair, and for that matter, will continue to be applied well after the authoritarian taskmaster has begun to move on.
A quick lesson on Uranus, who has been in the heady and spirited sign of Aries since March 2011.
As we have already mentioned, this planet represents the element of sudden jolts and breakthroughs, and he is primarily charged with revolutionary acts that go against the grain of anything Saturnian. If Saturn is about structure, order, routine and predictability, then Uranus seeks the antithesis of all this. Change, freedom, and a fresh, innovative and intuitive approach rather than the formulaic and structured ways of Saturn. He is quirky, jerky, unpredictable and completely inspired in his expression. He gets easily excited about new ideas – anything progressive and potentially liberating from the old ways. He picks up everything at a glance, without instruction manuals or prior experience, he has the rhythm and sassiness of a jazz musician and he is generally the livewire attraction of any roadshow attraction or fondue party.
Of course, to a guy like Saturn this can be a bit of a nuisance. Uranus can appear to be a pig-headed, rude, completely irreverent and rebellious upstart; his propensity to start a mutiny is most vexing; revolutionary in the extreme; his jerky movement puts us on the edge; prone to cause spills, breakages and the odd catastrophe; he spasmodically erupts into the most erratic behaviour, including emotionally upsetting displays and public histrionics, and worst of all, he is a nightmare to try to contain, especially when he sponanteously busts into violence or song. Punk metal ska, that is… In short, Uranus’ influence, although interesting in short spells, can simply be disruptive force known to the Saturn’s structured world of order and compliance, and when he’s been around for too long, well, there’s only one correct spelling of DIZZ-A.S.T.E.R.!… Sounds familiar?
Of course it does…
Naturally, if we look to our personal experiences recently we may immediately identify with this very energy. It is most likely a prevalent factor or theme in our lives that has increasingly become more evident in the past few weeks, so we probably don’t need to look far for an example.
We may experience it as stress or restlessness; a nervous agitation or uneasiness; we may suddenly become impregnated with a fervour for change or reform – whether it arises from within us, or somewhere in the relationships around us – we feel its electrifying effect upon our nervous system and it causes us to move faster, more erratically, think quicker, lose sleep – in general be more on edge about the circumstances in our lives. Of course, these are times when we may most likely be prone to “accidents”.
Well, we may attribute the cause or blame of all this disruptiveness upon someone or thing in our environment – maybe it’s our partner who is going through unusual ‘issues’; an exciting new friend or lover may have suddenly appeared; it may be the alarming antics of our whacky kids; or perhaps some unexpected news at work; even the freaky news on the TV or the internet might be the source of our uneasiness. Something has possibly come down like a bolt out of the blue and illuminated our world with a vision that leaves us irrevocably and irrefutably changed for ever.
And we can blame the whole world sometimes… “isn’t it mad” you say?.
If someone’s influence has gradually shaken you out of your regular grind, the boring doldrums… whether by introducing you to a world of exhilirating excitement, whirlwind romance, seering truths and evocative insights, or by simply freaking you out… ask yourself how did this happen. How could this happen to you??
- On some level you must confess that you actually allowed this.
So don’t act all surprised.
- On some level, you actually invited the unexpected. As if to raise a red flag to the inane and untenable chastity of Saturn’s antiquated and unbearably insufferable structure.
And the world now turns to see itself rising to its own neuroses on the big picture. It come to you through constant streams of media, through into your home, on your iTablet AND on your 55″ LED widescreen TV.
Yes, we don’t have to look any further than our news bulletins today to see some prime examples of how Uranus coming to station at the moment in history has indeed been priming us in the past few weeks for all this unnerving tension in this world. A tension that stationary Saturn is having to deal with under the most vexing annoyance. Witness for instance a crime scene of a civilian airline disaster where insurgents are recklessly rummaging through kilometers of evidence in a paddock somewhere in the Ukraine, as world officials and aviation experts try to investigate…
As Uranus prepares to stop and turn retrograde is a few hours, those of you with planets on or around the 16th degree Cardinal (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are feeling a nervous tension rarely felt. This is indeed a pivotal moment in human revolutionary terms. And those whose planets are around the 2nd degree Fixed (Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius) are undergoing severe test of strength and endurance as you are called upon to act at your peak during this phenomenal crisis.
(please continue to read if you missed yesterday’s post)
PART I – SATURN
After 4 months in retrograde (Rx), Saturn stationing is a significant phenomenon in itself.
The planet of both physical and psychological structure governs by creating concentration and crystalisation. His active influence serves to harden and solidify any loose form or concept into stuff that matters, stabilizing growth and forming a density and substance that leaves a lasting impression of a specific point in time. A time when something was formed. Saturn is important because his involvement provides the final and conclusive proof for all physical/psychological definition, against a specific time. Without Saturn there would be nothing. It would be like we were back in the sea, where everything is infinite and loose, and time matters little. In short, if something can be conclusively measured and defined by conventional standards, whose outcomes may be agreed upon by the status quo, without dispute, then Saturn is involved.
How does it affect you?
Saturn’s crystalising factor means that whatever he touches turns to hard rock. This wonderful effect has some pretty heavy side effects. ‘Heavy‘ as in the hippy sense, meaning bummer, downer, flat tyre, etc. A brush with the Lord Kronos can be frought with inhibitions, frustrations and delays. Any area of our life that is being affected by this ‘Grand Inquisitor’ can only be experienced as an excruciating spell of existential scrutiny upon those things we cherish, a cold, unfeeling, dosage of harsh reality that seeks only to strip us of any mushy notions or loose parts and press us to get the deal together, or lose it altogether. It is often the time of realisation that one has reached their limits; where the buck stops; a time to sober up; face the music. And either we make or break. There are simply no sympathies.
Often it hurts. The dawning that we have reached a point in time when we must either concede to our limitations, or align to a new structure is often a debilitating time, filled with melancholy and despair, isolation and sadness. It is so because on some level we may have failed to accept the full scope of our situation, perhaps entertaining some loose and fanciful notions that simply did not accord with the cold hard operational facts.
Perhaps it was our position in the world, a relationship, a job, a project or venture or some concept or idea that really mattered to us. Mostly, it is the process of painful discovery that what we thought mattered… maybe didn’t. And if it did, we had to work damn hard to prove it. If something – anything – wasn’t quite right, NOW would be the time where these things came to the surface for appraisal, review, audit, trial, judgement, execution. With Saturn come a stern reminder that we have to get real.
Only if we have taken a hard-nosed approach (say, in the corporate, scientific, or administrative sense) will the impact of Saturn make perfect sense. Perhaps, in this case we may ourselves be personifying Saturn’s effect upon others and giving them a proverbial wake-up smack on the tush.
Of course, the good news is that once this transit has passed things will appear a lot lighter indeed. In most cases one usually looks back at this time as a bit of a character building episode, and definitely these are the periods on uses to mark one’s hallmark moments, the coming of age stories invariably involve a Saturn moment.
SATURN Rx: 3rd March - 20th July , 2014 18:50 GMT
Of course, retrogradation of any planet tends to somewhat warps this principle. Retrogradation means a subjectification of the primary energy. By personalising the process of crystalisation, Rx takes a more introspective approach to the rules and definitions by which we come to be measured. Thus the standard of expectations being imposed upon us by the Saturn influence seems somewhat arbitrary, whimsical, superstitious or just plain biased. It is not based on any conventionally absolute system. Yet we are still forced to accept the hardness all the same. The results can be confounding.
On a personal level, we might find the way we are being assessed to be inconclusive, inconsistent or, at least, founded on subjective evidence rather than objective grounds. Since Saturn has a way of making us feel punishingly accountable, Saturn Rx may only leave us with an overall insecurity or inability to completely accede or accord to society’s. It seems as we are being punished against a social order that makes sense only to the punisher. This would effectively compromise our ability to mesh into convention, and limit our overall social credibility and overall status.
If we project this energy out into a wider sociological model we have a situation where what we see is not absolutely tangible but plausible enough. For instance, Saturn turned Rx on March 2nd this year. Just a few days later, on March 8th, Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 completely disappeared over the South China Sea with 239 persons aboard. The search then became a daily saga that went on for weeks. Eventually, despite the sophistication of today’s aviation and satellite tracking technology, there was little evidence found as to the whereabouts of this plane and its passengers. On April 1st, the Malaysian government announced that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the disappearance. The most plausible explanation provided was that the plane had come to rest somewhere at the deepest part of the Indian Ocean. The matter was left at that. Since the evidence was vague and inconclusive, an educated guess was made as to the reality of the situation. Of course any such judgements are completely arbitrary hence subject to later scrutiny. As seen in the now infamous 1995 OJ Simpson case, when Saturn in Rx passes judgement, the jury’s verdict might have leaned toward the capricious side.
Lesson? Saturn in Retro, prone to arbitrary rulings.
Advice? Wait till ALL the evidence is in.
So what happens when Saturn slows down to go the other way?
Saturn slowing or stationary just intensifies all the agony. These are probably the most morose times in history. If you have at least one planet or point, like the Ascendant, near the 17th degree of any fixed sign (Scorpio, Aquarius,Taurus, Leo), then things ain’t much fun for you right now. Even more intense is the 2nd degree, where Saturn and Uranus form a midpoint. Pretty serious and dour in fact. Such is the frustration and delay that it seems like you’re never going to see the end of this crisis. Saturn’s phenomenal pause, smack dab in the middle of Scorpio, presses many of us to undergo a most public, a most publically shared experienced of “death and rebirth” of some sort.
It is the crisis we simply had to have as many of us seek answers to questions that cannot be so readily answered. It is no coincidence that many of us have long embarked on a deep existential exploration into metaphysical and occult-like subjects. Our collective inquiry has brazenly launched into research in the supernatural, extra-terrestrial, and higher energetic realms. Psychological and emotional issues surrounding abuse and wounding within the family, church, corporations, schools, asylums, hospitals, indigenous reservations, prisons, and any other institution where the individuals or groups are subjected to phsycho-sexual victimisation are themes which are constantly under scrutiny in our daily news.
Of course, in a grim coincidence, just a few days before Saturn goes direct, another Malaysian Airlines passenger jet was wiped from the sky on July 17th, killing all 298 on board, many of them top scientists on route to Australia for a convention on AIDS research. As the world is simply in grief over this awful tragedy we must ask whether there is some symbolic significance of this second aviation event this year, again during Saturn’s Stationary period. As expected, some serious question will be asked at this time: How will the world leaders, scientists and commercial entities investigate this incident? What will be the final outcome this time on what actually happened? Will we ever know the truth?
The impact upon world politics, the airline industry and on aviation technology will no doubt be just the beginning with this incident? On a social level, we will seek to define our basic human rights as citizens of the world to move freely, apolitically and without discrimination during these troubled times. We must demand that the agenda of individuals or groups with warring or destructive force does not inflict upon innocent civilians.
Tomorrow: URANUS Stations and the Saturn/Uranus Midpoint.
