The 13 degrees Capricorn/Cancer axis will be the battleground for much more than this April’s much anticipated Cardinal Cross bout. Currently a powerful opposition is forming between the combination of Venus/Pluto against Jupiter in what becomes Heat 1, Jan19-Feb 2.
A planetary opposition creates a see-saw effect between two diametrically opposing energies. A compelling struggle occurs as these teeter from end to end, trying to either strike a balance (seldom entirely possible), or a decisive triumph of one over the other.
So who are the contenders in the ring at the moment? Well, tonight…
…In the Capricorn corner… we have super-heavyweight ‘Pluto The Unstoppable’ and his alluring assistant , ‘ Retrograde Venus the Voluptuous’. This pair has enormous seductive power, subversively manipulative and are the underground favourites here tonight. They’re fighting to uphold the title for corporal distinction and worldly acclaim. Backed by enormous corporate sponsorship, they intend to fight to the death and will use every trick in the book to sustain a win…
In the Cancer corner, a guy who needs no introduction – he’s big, he’s mighty, he’s larger than life itself… please, give it up for the great white hope himself…’Jovial Jupiter’!!! Jupiter is here today to promote his message of good ol’ fashion family values, down home cooking – his secret weapon is his enormous intuition and mammoth heart – he’d like to dedicate a victory to all you kids, moms & dads out there, on whom he counts so much for your support.
And the challenge is on…
Who do you fancy as outright champion? This will not be a long, spectacular battle, it will go on for days (till Feb 2-3). Is there a chance that this could result in a tie??
ROUND 1 [ding!]
…and it’s on, the great challenge between Venus/Pluto in the Capricorn corner in opposition to Jupiter in Cancer.
Jupiter strikes the first blow by opening his doors wide open for a enormously hospitable reception. Pluto wants to come in but says he can’t stay – he’s on a work mission, until Venus becomes enticed to stick around and indulge in some of the home-baked treats that Jupiter dishes out for starters…
Things soon warm up when the conversation swings round to personal matters, namely romantic conquests. Here, Pluto packs an almighty punch by revealing that he and Venus have been quite busy dating several high-profile love interests – a dealer in exotic arts, a highly respected professor of relational psychology, a real-estate developer and investor, a notorious madam from the city’s top parlour, a plastic surgeon, and an edgy diplomatic spy , just to name a few…
Jupiter is not impressed, he simply questions whether any of these can provide any sense of emotional satisfaction and genuine homeland security, arguing that status isn’t everything, and besides, none of them can cook or wish to raise children, and to him, a big loving family in a comfortable house near his old neighbourhood is much more of value.
Jupiter also strikes back when, in an abundant display of emotion starts to sing the national anthem, causing the entire arena of spectators to swell in support with a roaring united voice that increasingly grows with the fervour of patriotism. But Pluto is not moved by this overt sentimentality, and taking advantage of tonight’s Scorpion Moon inflicts a stinging riposte against Jupiter by deliberately teasing him for being ‘momma’s boy’ and not being able to cut it like a grown adult. Venus harshly corroborates this with her sneeringly cold scowl and it appears the highly sensitive Jupiter is down, taking this all so personally…
And the bell rings for END OF ROUND 1 [ding]
… to be continued
ROUND 2 [ding!]
Our contenders return to the match after a moment’s respite. Jupiter’s fall against the Capricorn corner was a hard knocks lesson. His crabby coach in the Cancer corner has reminded him to use his hard shell to protect against taking things personally. No matter how mean and nasty the criticism from the deeply manipulative Pluto may be, he must rise above the tendency to reel back into himself and get sulky. He must also resist his temptation to sweeties from Venus, which could slow him down and make him complacent. This is no time to come lazy and give in to addictive habits.
Jupiter seems to have expanded from the experience of his first round fall. Wiser, more confident, his demeanour radiates a positively likable glow. Even his cynical opponents Venus/Pluto in the Capricorn corner acknowledge that it may not benefit to play dirty.
They switch the offensive to using a penetrating charm against Jupiter’s new street-wise toughness. Suddenly the ring transforms into a compelling whirlwind of compliments, and seductiveness… The fight still centers over themes of security vs career – Venus expects to know that Jupiter has a steady and respectable source of income, Jupiter needs to be assured that his emotional well-being and family needs will be nurtured.
Pluto struggles to conceal his compulsion to fly into a fit of rage when he hears such sissy nonsense about feelings.
Venus manages to ease Pluto off, and after a few deep breaths he adopts a most sensible approach to understand what he considers Jupiter’s toxic attachment to sentimentality. Pluto now fixes to artfully persuade Jupiter that it is time to rationally assess all things (both materials and memories) that Jupiter has hoarded, to let go of his attachment to some of these, no matter how warm and fuzzy they may seem, and come to realise that they are in fact endangering his entire growth and maturity.
And suddenly a penny drops…and the bell rings [ding]… end of ROUND 2
…to be continued
We return ringside, where in the bout to knock the other guy out of orbit, things are slowing down considerably…
… but it’s only the calm before the hurricane.
Venus’ involvement in the Capricorn corner has almost disarmed both ally Pluto and opponent Jupiter, who began this tussle with a very ferocious display of might and bluster. As she moves in retrograde around the ring, she traces her steps as if she has been through such a conflict before. She is almost at a complete halt as she gazes pensively to the other side. It appears that her brush with Jupiter in the Cancer corner has made her question whether the struggle to pursue her own career ends may have come at some expense to her home life.
She had not given those things that much attention before – it seems that pressure from Pluto to excel at all costs in business, government, career and social standing has blinded Venus entirely… yes, Jupiter’s heartfelt attachment to his old-fashioned ways does seem a little stale when judged from the ivory towers, but it has somehow endeared Venus to become philosophical, to kindly accept others without judgement.
Pluto himself has ceased to consider this tendency to want to cling onto the past. As he positions himself, he is direct in his intent, that we are living in a civilised world… progress must go on. We have responsibilities. It is the noble way. Things must go on. And as he steps up to resume this match, he is determined more than ever to drive toward success, with all the zeal and fervor he he can muster.
…and the bell is about the ring for what looks to be the most intense round in recent times – a full scale opposition between two of the most ambitious fighters in the game.
….to be continued.
ROUND 3 [ding!]
And the heavyweights are in… head to head now….
Jupiter: Let’s start with your big industries. You have poisoned our rivers and streams, killed the wildlife and forests to make money with your massive processing plants and sprawling real estate developments.
Pluto: You people need consumer goods, you need foods and products, big homes, yet you want to keep your environment pristine, give me a break… we gave you recycling bins on the end of your streets didn’t we??
Jupiter: Ha!, and speaking of the environment, you have dangerously brought the entire planet to intense levels of global warming by continued pushing of fossil fuel energy sources, when we are all aware that there are viable alternatives. But of course, you’re controlling the world’s economies by charging us for digging up the earth’s buried riches.
Pluto: For a start, global warming is a myth. And on one hand you are accustomed to your home cooling and heating, cable TV and internet, automated appliances to enhance your daily routine and on the other complain about the bills? The energy that is delivered to your home did not grow on trees, our companies must mine and generate these.
You never ever come out of your little holes except to drive around for more shopping, or to go to your routine labouring jobs. You live your lives like caged chickens, stuck in you nests, feeding on a diet of familiarity and sentimentality without a creative thought in your heads… how is that going to get you anywhere?
Jupiter: What a shame that you judge our lives as a mere bland routine! You have enslaved us to your factories, your office blocks, your counsel jobs, your retail outlets, your housing developments, and your have made us nervously clingy to a false sense of job security, jobs that are now slowly being replaced by technology and cheaper offshore slavery, crippled the community’s craft and artisan culture with mass production of cheap worthless products… What happened to our small businesses, our ma and pa stores, where we took the love and care to serve one another and make a difference in each other’s lives?… we used to support our local community by shopping locally for goods that were made nearby – you snuffed those out with your mega-marts and franchises…
Pluto: Don’t be silly, who wants to waste their afternoon going around to a dozen little shops to find a good tomato, having to hear sales-people’s dreary life stories after a long day’s work? People want speed, convenience, quality, in-stock assurance, brand variety. You guys asked for that – we gave it to you, all under one roof, at one low, low price! … and you whine about the ma’s and pas… Why aren’t they at home with your family watching cable TV??
Jupiter: Why you… you mock the disintegration of our market place, the whole economy is controlled by just a few corporations, our fuel and grocery supplies, our energy and utility needs, our banking and financing… all controlled by a few, ridiculously wealthy individuals… this isn’t democracy! It’s plutocracy….
Pluto: Ease up old man, you wackos and your conspiracy theories… the defeated man’s only refuge against the truly successful in a world that provides the freedom to make anything of yourself, as long as you have the drive to achieve.
Jupiter: to achieve?? yeah right… the minute anybody has an idea that is potentially a threat to your big business you just snuff it out with a blank check… healthy enterprise… talk about your bullying – you raid our small ventures, blockade our rallies, silence and disband our unions with legal action, monopolise our media outlets, scoff at our petitions…
Pluto: … Please… you have the internet… Share it on Facebook!
[ding!] END OF ROUND 3
As Jupiter retracts to the Cancer corner, his condition is quite battered and bruised by the cruel flourishes of criticism and ‘advice’ from Pluto in the past three rounds. He concedes to himself that he’s not yet met anyone as hard and relentless as that guy. His sensitivity is smitten, stung in the most tender, most personal of places.
Pluto, whose encounter with Jupiter has been intriguing in that just seldom has he faced such audacious opposition from a commoner, is not perturbed. He feels a strong revulsion for these squishy emotional types and sneers across the ring at his pathetic expression of consternation. He can see in Jupiter’s eyes a solemn but futile desperation to win, yet he feels no pity for those whom he considers to be ruled by their emotions. Jupiter’s fight for Cancer was admirable, but it was for a cause which for Pluto makes little sense, shows little struggle or plight beyond that fundamental to survival – the dependence on nature’s providence. That’s not enough to sway him give from his mission towards social progress, wealth and prosperity of the enterprise and the state.
Venus, who until until recently was drawn strongly towards Pluto, whose charisma she found irresistible and sexy, has now begun to distance herself away from him. Although the attraction to the Capricorn lifestyle still holds some appeal, mostly for its prestige, it seems a hard and joyless pursuit to her, and she is becoming suspicious of Pluto’s true involvement in this world after witnessing his visciousness in fight. She does not find any beauty in his need to become so deeply cutting and destructive to poor Jupiter and his defense of his Cancerian habits. It was a display that left her somewhat scarred and, although she will deal with Pluto again, she wants to slowly liberate herself from his controlling clutches. Whatever did she see in him at all, she guesses power isn’t everything…
the bell rings [ding!] for ROUND 4
Jupiter, slightly disheveled and looking battered and demoralised rises slowly and approaches his opponent Pluto.
Pluto locks a mean fixed glare into Jupiter’s beady, blackened eyes. He is no longer trying to conceal his merciless, amoral nature from neither his opponent nor the greater audience. His only motive now is to finish the job – on behalf of big business, the body corporate, the governing powers of Capricornius that sponsor him tonight, whose agenda is to make money, not care for human rights. They want to see the Cancer candidate – Jupiter, completely annihilated. And for Pluto this is too easy now.
As he prepares himself to strike his final blows on the inwardly retracting Jupiter he is mindful of only one thing, that the enormous roar of the crowd is not for him. They are all cheering for the other guy. His own corporate sponsors are not even in the room. They are merely represented by the preponderance of advertising banners ubiquitously covering the auditorium walls and the brand logos emblazoned upon his dark outfit. He stops to think before he decides to eliminate Jupiter completely. He wonders who the hell he’s really fighting for…
Pluto senses that win or lose he cannot avoid the loss to his reputation and damage to the brand, and since he appears to have already lost the admiration of the voluptuous Venus, his challenge here may prove disastrous. But he cannot help himself. Stopping short is not in Pluto’s nature. He is compelled to fight to the death. He starts to strike upon Jupiter, rapaciously at first , sardonically. He doesn’t mean to hurt him yet he cannot altogether stop. Jupiter has no defense but to retrograde further into his corner. He knows he cannot beat this monster… this Golliath. Yet the crowd is howling out his name, JU-PI-TER, JU-PI-TER!
Pluto continues to strike against the crowd. He beats Jupiter with increasing power to his blows. He is now madly fixated upon putting an end to it all, whatever the cost. He becomes merciless in pursuing his victory…
…At some point Venus calls out to Pluto “STOP, you’re killing him, you win, let him go!” and as Jupiter’s coach makes an appeal to end the match the ring is rushed by hundreds, thousands of outraged spectators, all protesting in sympathy for their working class hero, who manage to drag Jupiter away from the near terminal end of Pluto’s deadly blows.
And in this way this bout comes to its untimely end… the bell does ring [ding ding ding],
…but this is no outcome… not a conclusion, just an apparent end. It is not over…
As he is carried away Jupiter is heard moaning “I will return, I will be back”.
